A recent poll found that the majority of young voters believe natural gas is critical for the nation's economy and that it is an affordable energy source.

The American Gas Association survey also found that the economy is the top issue for 30% of young voters. Health care and the environment follow the economy with 22% and 14%.

Sixty-one percent of young voters agree that natural gas is an affordable energy source, while 67% believe it is reliable and 68% believe it is accessible, the association's survey found.

When it comes to climate change, Gen Z and Millennial voters agreed that it must be addressed and included in a solution for affordable energy.

The survey also found 73% are more favorable toward natural gas and 71% are more favorable toward natural gas because of savings. Of Gen Z and Millenials, 72% were more favorable toward natural gas because it lowers greenhouse gas emissions, the association's poll reported.

More than half of young voters believe natural gas will support a strong workforce in the U.S., coming in at 56%, while 54% of young voters believe it will support the overall economy.

The association examines metrics related to natural gas, such as costs, efficiency, energy demand and supplies. It also evaluates policy and advocates for its members.

AGA's Richard Meyer, a managing director at the association, wrote in a post on the website that natural gas was valuable.

"Natural gas has a place in low carbon buildings, and new and existing natural gas infrastructure can be used to leverage this opportunity," Meyer wrote. "Natural gas is a valuable and low-emissions resource that can help us meet our collective energy and environmental goals, including addressing climate change."

Meyer wrote that natural gas is more efficient in homes and has continued to improve since it was first introduced. He noted that since 1970, there have been more than 32 million residential customers added to the natural gas system.
