A former Texas pastor will spend more than 24 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to a count of sexual exploitation of a child.

Brett Jarad Monroe, 39, entered a guilty plea on the charge in January. A former associate pastor at Heritage Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, he told investigators his actions were to pay for his pornography addiction, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported on its website.

Monroe told U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents after they searched his residence on Dec. 11 that he recorded a minor female showering in his home. That video was converted to pictures he uploaded to an online account.

“This individual’s actions were revolting, and the harm he caused to innocent children is devastating and forever lasting. His conduct was particularly disturbing because he was a trusted member of the community,” Ryan L. Spradlin, special agent in charge of HSI Dallas, said in the agency’s release.

During his sentencing, testimony revealed that the defendant admitted he recorded other minor victims in his shower. The agent testified Monroe admitted sending, receiving and trading child pornography online, HSI reported.

Federal agents were assisted by the Arlington and Fort Worth Police departments and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
