Texas has earned “State of the Year” honors from Business Facilities (BF) magazine, the only state to win it four times since the award started in 2007.

The award recognizes the success of top projects in terms of capital investment and job creation, and looks at how successfully those projects have been executed. Some of the highlights for Texas last year include Uber’s new Administrative Hub in Dallas and Apple’s $1-billion investment in metro Austin.

“Building the Mac Pro, Apple’s most powerful device ever, in Austin is both a point of pride and a testament to the enduring power of American ingenuity,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a story posted on the BF website. “With the construction of our new campus in Austin now underway, Apple is deepening our close bond with the city and the talented and diverse workforce that calls it home. Responsible for 2.4 million American jobs and counting, Apple is eager to write our next chapter here and to keep contributing to America’s innovation story.”

Upon learning of the announcement early last month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement:

“Thanks to our unrivaled workforce and our commitment to economic freedom, Texas continues to shine as America’s center for job creation, innovation, and economic development.”

Other factors that helped earn Texas the award include its dominance in the oil and gas sector, as well as its success in wind power.

In a news release announcing the award last month, BF editor Jack Rogers called Texas, “by far been the most prolific economic development success story of the decade just ended. With a rapidly expanding skilled workforce and leadership in a diversified set of growth sectors, Texas will be sitting tall in the saddle for years to come.”

Rogers added that San Antonio’s emergence as a “Cyber City” also helped Texas earn the State of the Year designation.
