An international organization is taking steps to spread awareness about human trafficking, which may be becoming an epidemic in Texas.
A21 has officially teamed up with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and related entities to launch the #CanYouSeeMe #TexasSeesYou intiative, which includes putting up billboards to help drivers and riders in Southeast Texas become more aware of the crime, according to 12 News Now.
"As you drive around Southeast Texas, you may notice a new series of billboards aimed at bringing awareness to human trafficking and child exploitation," the district attorney's office wrote in a post on Facebook. "The billboards depict scenarios that reflect some of the most common forms of human trafficking, and they will be displayed statewide over the next year.”
A21’s website also provides a way for people to report possible human trafficking if they notice any strange activity. The phone number for the National Human Trafficking Hotline is 888-373-7888.
On its website, the organization describes itself as a "nonprofit organization fueled by radical hope that human beings everywhere will be rescued from bondage and completely restored. We are the abolitionists of the 21st century. We work with you to free slaves and disrupt the demand."
