On Wednesday, the Texas Senate confirmed Dan Hord III and Steven H. Stodghill as members of the Public Safety Commission. Their appointments follow Governor Greg Abbott's decisions last year, with both terms set to expire on January 1, 2030.
"It is an honor to be appointed by Governor Abbott and confirmed by members of the Texas Senate to the Public Safety Commission," Commissioner Hord expressed. "I look forward to serving my fellow Texans in this new role and helping make decisions that will keep the Texas Department of Public Safety the premier law enforcement agency in the country."
Commissioner Stodghill shared his sentiments, acknowledging his five-year service. "It has been a tremendous honor to serve on the Public Safety Commission these past five years, and I thank Governor Abbott and the Senate for the privilege of continuing to serve our great state in this manner," he said. He also expressed confidence in the department’s direction alongside other commission members and leadership.
The duo will work with Chairman Steven P. Mach, Nelda Luce Blair, and Larry B. Long on the commission. Chairman Mach welcomed their addition, highlighting their importance during heightened threats to the state’s safety. "The Public Safety Commission is thrilled to have Commissioners Hord and Stodghill join us in guiding the Texas Department of Public Safety," he noted.
Commissioner Hord, from Midland, was appointed on June 17, 2024. He is involved in several enterprises, including HEDLOC Investment Co. LLC, H&H Properties, and the Western Property Group. He also holds degrees in entrepreneurship and marketing from Baylor University, where he has served on the Board of Regents and other committees. Additionally, Hord is involved with the Scharbauer Foundation and PathNorth.
