Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has pledged support from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to aid the Rio Grande Valley amid severe flooding. The region has experienced half a year's worth of rainfall in merely 48 hours, causing widespread damage and significant agricultural and livestock losses.
"This is a devastating tragedy for our Valley community," stated Commissioner Miller. He emphasized the importance of solidarity: "Texas is no stranger to natural disasters, but it’s important that Texans stand behind the Rio Grande Valley right now."
The hardest-hit areas include Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties, where rising floodwaters have led to road closures and hazardous conditions. Commissioner Miller highlighted the ongoing dangers with river levels expected to rise further.
"I urge all valley residents to prioritize their own safety and that of their families by following state and local emergency advisories," appealed Commissioner Miller. He advised the community to stay informed through official sources like the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and local officials.
