The Texas Senate has passed several bills aimed at addressing diverse issues ranging from religious displays in schools to the regulation of THC products. Senator Bryan Hughes expressed satisfaction with the approval of SB 10, which permits the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. "It’s time to return the Ten Commandments back to our classrooms where they were displayed for over 200 years," he stated.

SB 11 was also passed, allowing time for prayer or religious text reading in schools, contingent on consent and without interfering with instructional time. Hughes noted, "I am encouraged that the Texas Senate is taking this kind of action to restore religious liberty."

Additionally, SB 18 seeks to withdraw state funding from libraries facilitating drag queen story hours. The bill follows last session's legislation banning sexually oriented performances in front of minors.

SB 13 addresses inappropriate content in school libraries by establishing advisory councils for book acquisitions and repealing certain obscenity exemptions through SB 412.

On another front, SB 3 targets THC products sold across Texas by banning any amount present in consumable goods. Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn highlighted concerns over mental health impacts linked to these products.

The Senate also approved SB 12, strengthening parental rights concerning their children's education and upbringing, including a ban on Critical Race Theory and DEI mandates.

In response to increasing electricity demand, SB 6 aims to improve grid reliability amid forecasts predicting a significant rise in power needs by 2030.

Finally, SB 17 prohibits land purchases by entities from countries deemed adversarial by U.S. intelligence assessments.

In other matters, Senator Hughes recognized World Down Syndrome Day and honored Dr. Gene Getz for his contributions as Chaplain of the Day for the Texas Senate.
