Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has called on the Texas House to pass Senate Bill 17, proposed by Senator Lois Kolkhorst. The bill aims to restrict foreign entities from purchasing land in Texas. Commissioner Miller emphasized the importance of safeguarding Texas's agricultural resources, infrastructure, and water rights from foreign adversaries.

"The security of our land is synonymous with the security of our state and nation," stated Miller. He added that the bill would help ensure that "Texas land remains in the hands of Texans, not hostile foreign entities."

Miller highlighted concerns from local farmers, ranchers, and landowners about foreign acquisitions of Texas property. According to him, the legislation will protect food supplies, support the economy, and prevent strategic purchases near military bases.

He praised Senator Kolkhorst for her leadership on this issue and expressed support for Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's efforts to promote the bill. Miller urged Speaker Dustin Burrows and other representatives to back SB 17 to secure Texas land for future generations.

Director of Communications Maddison Jaureguito also voiced support for advancing this legislation through the House.
