Tano Tijerina has been appointed as the new chairman of the Texas Border Coalition (TBC). In his acceptance, Tijerina expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized the importance of unity among border communities. He highlighted the coalition's history, which began when a Texas State Senator suggested that unified efforts could secure more resources and influence in Austin.
The coalition, initially focused on state-level issues, has since expanded its advocacy to Washington, D.C., addressing border-related concerns at a national level. Tijerina noted past successes, such as overcoming bureaucratic hurdles for international bridge permits with bipartisan support led by Senator Ted Cruz.
Tijerina stressed the need for ongoing dialogue with leaders across political lines to advance community interests. He sees an opportunity for TBC to host meetings with state and federal leaders to ensure border communities are part of policy discussions.
As a native of Laredo and Webb County, Tijerina is committed to leading TBC with humility and resolve. He encouraged continued dedication from coalition members to make a positive impact on their region.
