The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) has announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. Alejandro "Alex" Hernandez and Sigmund "Sig" Cornelius have been selected by the ERCOT Board Selection Committee to serve three-year terms starting January 27.
"On behalf of our current members, we welcome Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Cornelius to our Board of Directors," said ERCOT Board Chair Bill Flores. "Their extensive experience and leadership will add great value to the Board. We look forward to working with them as we continue to address the challenges and complexities of maintaining a reliable and resilient electric grid to power a fast-growing state and to provide opportunities for hardworking Texas families and businesses."
Hernandez and Cornelius are set to replace outgoing directors Paul Foster and Robert "Bob" Flexon, who stepped down from their positions in 2024.
ERCOT operates under a 12-member Board of Directors with oversight from the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature. All board members reside in Texas.
Alejandro Hernandez brings two decades of experience in business formation, operations, executive leadership, and strategic advisory roles. He was the founder and CEO of Cumulus Data, known for its carbon-free nuclear power data center platform. His previous roles include CEO at Talen Energy Corp., CFO at TerraForm Power Inc., and Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. Hernandez holds board positions at Target Hospitality and has served on various committees.
Sigmund Cornelius has nearly 45 years in the energy sector with senior management experience. He recently retired as President of Freeport LNG Development L.P., having held numerous leadership roles at ConocoPhillips Company until 2010. Cornelius serves on the board of Parex Resources among others.
The ERCOT Board Selection Committee comprises members appointed by state officials as outlined by Senate Bill 2 (SB2) from the 87th Session of the Texas Legislature.
ERCOT manages electricity flow for over 27 million customers in Texas, covering about 90% of the state's electric load.
