Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to Texas restaurants recognized in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Texas. The guide features 15 one-MICHELIN-Star establishments and two MICHELIN Green Star eateries, with a total of 117 restaurants across 26 cuisine types in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. This includes Bib Gourmand restaurants known for offering great food at a great value.
“Michelin’s recognition of Texas’ outstanding restaurants is a testament to the world-class talent found not only in the greater Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio areas but throughout our great state,” stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that the MICHELIN Stars rankings will significantly impact the Texas economy by attracting global travelers to experience diverse culinary offerings beyond just barbecue and Tex-Mex. Governor Abbott noted that the foodservice industry is crucial to Texas's economy, contributing over $100 billion in sales last year and being the state's largest private employer.
The MICHELIN Guide Texas was unveiled at an event hosted by Houston First with support from Travel Texas. First Lady Cecilia Abbott attended the ceremony where chefs and restaurant teams were honored.
Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, remarked on the opportunity provided by the guide: “The MICHELIN Guide Texas offers a remarkable opportunity to share our state's culinary diversity and exceptional quality with the world.” He highlighted how it encourages travelers to explore distinct flavors and authentic dining experiences unique to Texas.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, shared insights from their anonymous inspectors: “Our anonymous Inspectors were impressed by the culinary community across the state of Texas.” Poullennec acknowledged that their selection showcases uniquely Texan flavors alongside international influences.
