Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Dr. Mark Edwards to the Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome Advisory Council. His term will last until August 31, 2025. The council's role is to provide advice to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Legislature on matters related to research, diagnosis, treatment, and education concerning pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome.
Dr. Edwards is based in Sonora and serves as the medical director of urgent care at the Shannon Clinic. He holds certifications from both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Physician Specialties Board of Certification in Urgent Care Medicine. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine and a member of the Southern Medical Association.
In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Edwards contributes as an advisory board member for the Health Environmental Learning Program and serves as president and trustee of the Lighthouse Community Church in Sonora. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.
