Governor Greg Abbott has dispatched personnel from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to South Carolina to aid in recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. This action comes after a request from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.

"As states in the Southeast continue to pick up the pieces following Hurricane Helene, Texas will continue to answer the call to help our fellow Americans recover and rebuild," stated Governor Abbott. "The State of Texas is deploying Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel to assist South Carolina in clearing storm debris caused by Hurricane Helene. Cecilia and I continue to pray for all the impacted families across the country as they begin to move forward from this devastating hurricane."

The deployment is facilitated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which allows states to share resources during disasters or emergencies. EMAC enables states to offer support while ensuring protection for deployed personnel and reimbursement for mission-related expenses.

Texas has been actively supporting hurricane response and recovery across the southeastern United States. The state has sent law enforcement personnel, military aircraft, and disaster recovery teams to Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton, as well as resources to North Carolina for Hurricane Helene recovery. Additionally, emergency response assets have been deployed to Tennessee, incident management teams are assisting in North Carolina, veterinary resources are being provided for animal care, power generators have been sent to Georgia, and urban search and rescue teams from Texas A&M Task Force 1 have been positioned in Florida.
