The Texas Center for the Book has announced a Spooky Storytime event at the Texas State Library on Monday, Oct. 14. The event will feature award-winning storyteller Bernadette Nason and is open to all ages. It will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Public Event Space at the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, located at 1201 Brazos St. in Austin, next to the Texas Capitol.

Following the storytime, attendees are invited to join a free "RIP Tour of the Texas Capitol," led by the Capitol Information and Guide Services Office. This tour will include haunted legends and historical tales about the Capitol building.

“With no school that day, it’s the ideal opportunity to enjoy spine-chilling tales in a fun and family-friendly environment,” said Michele Chan Santos, Coordinator for the Center. “Come for the stories, stay for the scares—it’s sure to be a day you won’t forget!”

Bernadette Nason is an award-winning English storyteller, author, and actor who has been a Texas Commission on the Arts touring artist since 2002. She visits various venues across the U.S., sharing multicultural tales, personal stories, and conducting workshops. Nason is also active in regional theater as a company member of Austin Playhouse and will soon appear as “Miss Marple” in A Murder is Announced at The Vortex Theatre. She has written two memoirs and is known for her role in Miss Congeniality.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP online at https://bit.ly/TX_spookystory and arrive about 15 minutes early for check-in. More information about planning your visit—including parking, accessibility, and other resources—is available at www.tsl.texas.gov/visit.
