Dax Gonzalez, the governmental relations director at the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), said that the organization tries to help school districts reduce their costs where possible and that the needs of larger districts or much different compared to smaller rural districts. Gonzalez was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.

“We provide services that help them cut their costs and provide more services for their students so that they're not worried about the associated red tape, regulations, and other things that come with running a school district," said Gonzalez in a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast.

“I think Austin is a unique case in that Austin is a big district, and they have resources to have staff to do various things across their district," said Gonzalez. “We have about 1,018 or 1,019 school districts across the state, and the vast majority of those districts are small rural school districts."

"We have one service which is a cooperative purchasing entity. We help throughout the bidding process that districts go through to buy things like toilet paper. We do all the bidding for them to get them the best deal."

Gonzalez is the governmental relations division director at the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), a nonprofit organization supporting Texas school boards. Founded in 1949, TASB provides services and advocacy to promote educational excellence for the state's public schoolchildren.

Texas Talks podcast is hosted by Brad Swail. The weekly show is focused on public policy in the state of Texas, with insights from the people and organizations that influence it.
