In an effort to safeguard Texas consumers, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has compiled a database of revoked licenses. The online list also includes TDLR administrative penalties and individuals who have been issued cease-and-desist orders due to unlicensed activity.

An August 7 press release issued by the TDLR stated that checking whether someone is licensed is an important part of determining whether to allow that person to provide a service or enter your home.

According to the release, the TDLR issued a cease-and-desist order against an athletic trainer in Houston whose Texas athletic trainer license was revoked after being suspended by the Board of Certification of the Athletic Trainer.

Alleged sexual contact with a client during a session resulted in the six-month suspension of a massage therapist's license in Dallas, according to the release.

The most recent license revocations include, but are not limited to, a massage student license in San Antonio, eight massage establishment licenses in Houston, and a massage establishment license in Plano.

The TDLR advised the public that hiring someone who is properly licensed protects consumers because it shows the person has undergone a criminal background check and completed any required training, exams, and continuing education covering important health and safety rules.

According to the release, most licensees are happy to give their license number, but any reluctance is considered a red flag.
