Lee Bratcher, the president and founder of the Texas Blockchain Council, said that Bitcoin is a highly transformational technology, whereas digital assets and enterprise blockchain offer more modest efficiency improvements, with their primary focus being on Bitcoin mining. Bratcher was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.
“The way I would characterize it is Bitcoin is an order of magnitude level," said Bratcher on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “You know, it's a generational-level technology that has huge transformational potential. Digital assets and crypto are similar, perhaps, but maybe not. As you know, transformational enterprise blockchain is what I would say is a step function.”
“It's a moderate increase in efficiency for value transfer for enterprises and for data efficiency," said Bratcher. “It's not as transformational; it's not as efficient as, say, a normal SQL database. But there are use cases, and it provides a, we'll call it, a marginal increase in efficiency when you're dealing with transactions across multiple parties that don't trust each other, where previously we were using centralized ledgers and things of that nature. So we do all three, but we do specialize in Bitcoin mining.”
Bratcher is the President and Founder of the Texas Blockchain Council, an industry group with over 75 member companies. The council aims to establish Texas as a leading hub for Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology innovation.
Texas Talks podcast is hosted by Brad Swail. The weekly show is focused on public policy in the state of Texas, with insights from the people and organizations that influence it.
