Ray Lopez, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, said he decided to run for City Council in San Antonio's District Six upon retiring in '09, aiming to implement institutional changes during his tenure, with a strong focus on education despite existing funding gaps. Lopez was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.

“I decided, right about the time that I retired in '09, to run for City Council here in San Antonio in District Six," said Lopez on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “I did, and again, fortunate enough to win. The term limits at that time had just changed from two, two-year terms to four two-year terms. I felt that was enough time to implement institutional changes needed in San Antonio.”

“We started aggressively to figure out where the best place to focus our time and treasure as a city was," said Lopez. “We came up with what I thought, and still do, believe is the most important thing: education. So what you do is you put your money right to use in the state, and spend an awful lot of money on education, but there are a lot of gaps.”

Lopez was elected to the Texas Legislature in 2019, representing House District 125. Currently, he serves on the Defense and Veterans Affairs and County Committees.
