Ray Lopez, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, said he retired from AT&T after 34 years in telecommunications, where he gained valuable organizational skills and community involvement experience, including serving as president of a school board in northwest San Antonio. Lopez was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.
“I retired from AT&T, after 34 years of being in the telecommunications environment, over a pretty tumultuous time," said Lopez on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “I went through divestiture, the phone company splitting up, coming back together, going through all that reorganization, all the time in our country when telecommunications was being redesigned, and that taught me quite a bit from an organizational perspective how to set goals and objectives.”
“I was there for 34 years," said Lopez. “During that time, of course, AT&T encouraged all of its managers to be involved in the community, and I did. I ran for a school board here in northwest San Antonio, and I won. I served as president of the school board the last couple of terms, and started taking a lot of that organizational structure that I was learning at AT&T from that large macro perspective."
Lopez was elected to the Texas Legislature in 2019, representing House District 125. Currently, he serves on the Defense and Veteran’s Affairs and County Committees.
