The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) has expressed approval of the Texas State Board of Education's decision to authorize four new open-enrollment charter districts. The SBOE opted not to take action on four out of five schools recommended by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for a charter grant.

"Parents deserve to be able to send their children to a school that meets their needs, but too many parents across the state have few or no options," said Mandy Drogin, campaign director for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas campaign. "We thank the State Board of Education for allowing these charter schools to empower the parents in their communities with choice."

"The demand for educational options is exploding across the state of Texas, with over 76,000 students currently on a charter school waitlist," stated Jorge Borrego, K-12 education policy director for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas campaign. "Innovative school models and access are key. We applaud the SBOE for supporting students by expanding educational opportunities."
