AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) and other state-based think tanks sent a coalition letter to the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce expressing their support for the American Privacy Rights Act of 2024.

The coalition includes TPPF, Roughrider Policy Center, Rhode Island Center For Freedom & Prosperity, Alabama Policy Institute, Palmetto Promise, MacIver Institute, Idaho Freedom Foundation, and the Independence Institute. These organizations are advocating for Americans' rights to online privacy and freedom.

“In the absence of a federal framework, more than a dozen states have stepped up to pass comprehensive consumer data privacy bills to put Americans in the driver’s seat when it comes to their personal data,” said David Dunmoyer of TPPF. “We are encouraged by the renewed national conversation about extending robust consumer data privacy rights to all Americans and look forward to working with members to secure the best legislative solution for consumers.”

According to a Pew Research Center poll from October 2023, 81% of Americans are concerned about how companies use the data they collect about them. Additionally, polling conducted by TPPF revealed that 97% of parents believe they should have more control over their children’s data privacy, and 90% agree that online users should have to grant permission for businesses to collect or share data with third parties.
