The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has issued a warning to Texas residents about false claims circulating online regarding the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. According to TDHCA, misleading information is being spread through social media platforms such as Facebook and various flyers, falsely stating that the “Texas Housing Authority” has opened or will soon open the waitlist for Section 8 properties across the state.
The fraudulent messages encourage individuals to provide personal information via a deceptive link or visit TDHCA’s headquarters in person. TDHCA urges the public not to enter their personal details on any such links provided through these communications.
"TDHCA’s Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program has not opened a waitlist," the department stated. "Any messaging reporting such information is false, and any information provided through the link could possibly be used to harm an individual’s personal identifiable information."
For accurate information related to TDHCA programs, individuals are advised to visit the Department’s official website at www.tdhca.texas.gov. Those seeking assistance can access resources on TDHCA's Help for Texans webpage at https://www.tdhca.texas.gov/help-for-texans.
TDHCA also encourages people to sign up for news updates regarding program releases, application procedures, and other relevant announcements through their official channels.
