Ten Texas counties have earned 2024 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The annual awards celebrate exemplary county government programs and services in 18 categories that cover a range of county responsibilities.

Harris County led the list of Texas recipients, securing 29 awards, including a prestigious Best in Category recognition. El Paso County followed with six awards. Other Texas counties honored include Bexar (one award), Dallas (two), Denton (two), Hidalgo (one), Smith (one), Travis (two), Wichita (one) and Williamson (one).

Harris County's standout achievement was in the Civic Education and Public Information category for its Precinct 2 Student2Government Leadership Academy. Launched by the office of Harris County Pct. 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, the summer program is designed to nurture a culture of public service and civic leadership among teens.

Participants in the academy apply through the same online portal used for Harris County job applications, giving them practical experience with an online human resources system. Students who complete the program receive a $200 stipend from Precinct2Gether, a nonprofit partner, and a laptop computer from Harris County Public Libraries.
