Donna Bahorich, former chair of the Texas State Board of Education chair, said she has been working on education in Texas since 2007 and served eight years on the board, including the four years as chair. Bahorich was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.

“I never was with the agency before I was elected to the State Board of Education," said Bahorich on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “There are 15 members on the State Board of Education, and all are elected from districts around the state. Before I served on the state board, I actually worked for now Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.”

“I was his district director, worked a session helping constituents and doing whatever they needed in Austin during a session in 2011," said Bahorich. “I did a lot of volunteer work and was involved in things to do with education since 2007. I was elected on the board and served there for eight years, was chair appointed by the governor for four of those years. And, you're term-limited as chair and I really enjoyed that work."

Bahorich currently serves on the Texas Historical Commission and is serving on the Open Education Resources (OER) advisory committee.

Texas Talks podcast is hosted by Brad Swail. The weekly show is focused on public policy in the state of Texas, with insights from the people and organizations that influence it.
