Texas pushes back against Biden's border policies with Operation Lone Star

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard have been collaborating to secure the border, halt the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas, and counteract transnational criminal activity between ports of entry. This joint effort, known as Operation Lone Star, has resulted in over 510,600 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 42,500 criminal arrests, including over 37,700 felony charges.

In addition to this, Texas law enforcement has seized lethal doses of fentanyl sufficient to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States and Mexico combined during this border mission. The state has also transported thousands of migrants to various cities across the country since April 2022.

According to state leaders, Operation Lone Star continues to address the dangerous gaps created by President Joe Biden's refusal to secure the border. They believe that every individual apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise infiltrated communities across Texas and the nation due to "President Biden's open border policies."

Recently Governor Abbott issued a statement condemning President Biden's new border proposals. He argued that these proposals do nothing to slow down record-breaking illegal immigration. He stated that efforts in Texas have led to a substantial decline in illegal immigration into the state while it remains on the rise in other border states.

In recent updates from Operation Lone Star, Governor Abbott highlighted several significant events including a terrorist arrest at the border; ongoing construction at Texas’ Forward Operating Base in Eagle Pass; a thwarted human smuggling attempt near Rio Grande River; high-speed pursuits involving human smugglers; arrests of numerous illegal immigrants for criminal trespass; and successful interdiction of drug smugglers by the Texas National Guard.
