Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are continuing efforts to secure the border and crack down on illegal activities. Since the inception of Operation Lone Star, over 509,000 illegal immigrants have been apprehended, with more than 42,300 criminal arrests and 37,500 felony charges. In the fight against the fentanyl crisis, Texas law enforcement has seized a large amount of the deadly drug.

Governor Abbott recently pointed out there has been a shift of illegal border crossings from Texas to other states like California. He highlighted the strategic positioning of the Texas National Guard base in Eagle Pass and showcased the repair of breaches in border barriers by the Texas National Guard soldiers.

In recent operations, DPS troopers have focused on pursuing and arresting individuals involved in illegal activities. One such incident involved a high-speed pursuit of a gang member in Webb County, resulting in the arrest of the individual and referral of illegal immigrants to Border Patrol.

Another operation in Hidalgo County saw DPS troopers chasing a human smuggler, ultimately leading to the apprehension of the individual and referral of seven illegal immigrants to Border Patrol.

The Texas National Guard has also been actively involved in seizing narcotics being smuggled into the country. A recent operation in Brownsville resulted in the arrest of drug smugglers crossing the Rio Grande Valley from Mexico.

The combined efforts, according to Governor Abbott, are crucial in securing the border and preventing illegal activities.
