The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty is gearing up for a special event featuring a re-enactor portraying the legendary Texan, Sam Houston. Derrick Birdsall, director of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum, will be bringing Houston to life on Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. Birdsall will share insights into Houston's life and career, including his time as a U.S. Senator, and shed light on the story behind the Center's name.
"We are thrilled to offer this program for our community to have a little fun and learn something fascinating about a person from Texas history whose name is attached to so many institutions in our area," said Alana Inman, Manager of the Sam Houston Center.
In addition to the engaging presentation, guests will have the unique opportunity to view two important historical documents associated with Sam Houston. Sam Houston's copy of his official report of the Battle of San Jacinto and the Treaty Between Texas Commissioners and the Cherokee Indians of 1836 will be on display for this one-night-only event. These documents are part of the State Archives collections housed at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission headquarters in Austin.
The Sam Houston Center invites individuals of all ages to come and experience an evening with this towering figure of Texas history. The Center, as a component of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, serves as the official regional historical resource depository for the 10 Southeast Texas counties.
The primary mission of the Center is to collect, preserve, and provide access to historically significant state and local government records and publications of the designated region, as well as to serve as a library of Texana and genealogical resources.
For those interested in attending this free event and delving into the rich history of Texas, mark your calendars for April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty.
