Mark Teixeira, former professional baseball first baseman, highlighted the challenge of assessing one's performance as a parent compared to that of an athlete, emphasizing the lack of a tangible scoreboard in parenting. Teixeira was a guest on a recent episode of the Texas Talks Podcast.
“It's not having control, and I think when you're an athlete, you put in, put in the work, you play a game, the end of the game, there's a scoreboard,” said Teixeira on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “You have your stat sheet, there's a scoreboard, you know where you stand.”
“A lot of times, being a dad, it's like, 'All right, how am I doing?' 'You know, come on, kids, give me some feedback,'” said Teixeira. “It's a little bit more difficult to check the scoreboard if you will.”
Teixeira, a former MLB player, had a 14-season career with teams like the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Anaheim Angels, and New York Yankees. He achieved success with three All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, and three Silver Slugger Awards. He holds the MLB record for hitting home runs from both sides of the plate in 14 games and is a recognized switch hitter, leading in home runs and RBIs in the American League and finishing second in MVP voting.
