Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas (CLEAT) Executive Director Charley Wilkinson said that police officers facing legal action aren't granted the same due process rights as non-police officers.

“We'd like to see the officer at least get a hearing,” said Wilkison on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “Have due process rights under the law the same way any American would.”

“If they're accused, they can just be railroaded right out of their job,” said Wilkison. “It's a very political situation. It's always been that way in Texas.”

Charley Wilkison earned his degree in Political Science from Texas A&M. He started his career in politics by working in campaigns and as a speechwriter and political strategist. His experience includes time spent in the U.S. Congress, Texas Senate, and Texas House of Representatives. He joined CLEAT in 1994 where he currently serves as the executive director and chief lobbyist.
