James B. Crow, the retired executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Golden Deeds for Education Award in 2023. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the educational system in Texas. Crow will be honored at the 2024 TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin.
Throughout his career, Crow dedicated himself to serving Texas public schools. His tenure as the executive director of TASB for 26 years made him the organization's longest-serving executive director. His work involved collaborating with lawmakers, policymakers, and local boards of education to make informed decisions that would benefit every student in Texas.

Before his role as the executive director of TASB, Crow held various positions within the organization since joining in 1981. Prior to that, Crow worked for the Austin Independent School District as a high school journalism teacher and later as a public information officer.
In addition to his contributions at the state level, Crow was appointed by former Texas Governor George W. Bush to serve as a commissioner of the Education Commission of the States (ECS). This national organization is dedicated to assisting states in developing sound education policies.
To honor Crow's significant contributions, TASB recently established the James B. Crow Innovation in Governance Award. This award recognizes education professionals who continue Crow's vision of improving student education through effective school leadership.
