Congressman Michael Burgess (R-Texas) said one of the areas he is trying to help cut down on federal spending is in the healthcare space. Burgess was invited to be a guest on the Wayne’s World Podcast to speak about his work as a congressman and doctor.

“This is not exactly a newsflash, we are too far in debt and we are spending too much money,” said Burgess on a recent edition of the Wayne’s World Podcast. “A good deal of the federal spend is spent in the healthcare space.”

“One of the things I have on the budget committee is the charge to answer some of those questions: how can we more wisely spend those dollars. How we can do more for less basically. We find ourselves handcuffed by the budgetary modeling that is kind of a constraint we live under on the legislative branch but there are ways around that,” Burgess said. “It’s stuff we all learned at our mother’s knee: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and we have to be willing to invest in that ounce of prevention so that we don’t have to spend for that pound of cure down the road.”

Congressman Michael Burgess currently represents the 26th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before starting in public service, Burgess spent thirty years working as a doctor in West Texas. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas and his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.
