The Department of Criminal Justice continues their search of correctional facilities for all illegal contraband

The Department of Criminal Justice has recently provided an update on their ongoing lockdown and search of all Texas Correctional Facilities in their quest to rid these institutions of illegal contraband. The lockdown was initiated on September 6th, as a response to the alarming increase in contraband being smuggled into the facilities.

During the lockdown, the focus of the employees has shifted towards conducting comprehensive searches of the facilities to uncover any hidden paraphernalia. To ensure the success of these searches, the movement of inmates has been restricted, visitors are prohibited, and mail sent to prisoners is now strictly in a digital format. This change was implemented due to a rise in illegal substances being sent as gifts, such as paper soaked in methamphetamines.

Despite these limitations, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is ensuring that inmates continue to receive proper care. They are still provided with meals, education, and medical services, and have access to religious services and necessary treatment programs.

The results of the ongoing search have proven to be significant. As of September 22nd, a staggering 284 cell phones have been discovered hidden throughout the facilities, along with numerous phone accessories. In addition, authorities have seized 38.5 gallons of alcohol, $347 in currency, and various illegal drugs, including amphetamines and fentanyl disguised as paper, as well as PCP, K2, and methamphetamine concealed as stamps. The searches have also uncovered 347 makeshift weapons and 214 other dangerous goods, such as lighters, tattoo guns, handcuff keys, and pills.

The Department of Criminal Justice's dedication to eliminating contraband from correctional facilities is commendable. Their ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and controlled environment within these institutions are crucial for the rehabilitation and security of both inmates and staff members alike.
