Mask mandates contribute to reduced COVID cases and deaths, CDC reports

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a report confirming that wearing masks can relatively reduce the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

According to the report, the mandates to wear masks resulted in a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths within 20 days of implementation.

There has been a 0.5 percentage point drop in daily case growth rates and a 0.7 percentage point reduction in daily death rates, within 1 to 20 days of the implementation.

The coronavirus, according to the CDC, takes 2 to 14 days to incubate. A person who has been infected with the virus may succumb to the illness weeks later.

“The researchers found that increases in both daily death rates and COVID cases and deaths slowed significantly within 20 days of putting mask mandates into place,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said during a virtual briefing after the report’s release, The Epoch Times reported.

“And the protective effect of the mask mandates grew stronger over time,” she added.

Walensky pointed out that easing the restrictions on dining in contributed to the cases’ growth rates.

“Increases in daily death rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths grew more quickly within 40 to 80 days following restaurants being allowed to resume on-premises dining.”
