Gov. Greg Abbott recently waived certain regulations that will allow eateries to deliver alcohol as the coronavirus forces businesses to close.

In a statement, Abbott emphasized how Texas supports retailers, restaurants and the employees that run them. Abbott said the waiver will allow restaurants to continue business by giving them a delivery option.

"The State of Texas is committed to supporting retailers, restaurants and their employees," Abbott said, according to CBS Austin. "These waivers will allow restaurants to provide enhanced delivery options to consumers during this temporary period of social distancing."

Effective now, restaurants that possess a mixed beverage permit can sell beer, wine, or mixed drinks via home delivery. Abbott said delivery is permitted as long as the customer orders food to go along with the alcohol.

In addition to the delivery option, a buy-back waiver also allows alcohol manufacturers to buy back any inventory that the restaurants, bars and clubs can't sell due to COVID-19.
