Over two years ago, former Texas House Speaker Joe Straus declared he would be leaving the House, but he continues to assist his colleagues in the Texas Capitol by donating campaign cash to several associates that are still in the legislature.
In June 2019, Straus said he would be founding the Texas Forever Forward PAC. His goal was to contribute the $2.5 million investment that was leftover from his campaign funds.
This, in turn, got the attention of some very prominent politicians in Texas.
Straus said he began the PAC so he could “promote a thoughtful, conservative approach to governing and rising political leaders ready to ensure a bright future for all Texans.”
However, the infamous PAC’s first donations don’t seem to be going where they should. While they are intended for “rising political leaders," the donated money appears to be flowing to the same politicians who supported Straus and his many examples of obstruction.
Straus still has $2.5 million on hand to shell out to his friends for their election efforts. The question remains as to whether Straus will donate that money to Republicans or Democrats.
