Cleat Executive Director: Texas Has Become 'More Violent Simply Because You've Had a Population Explosion'

Public Safety

Charley Wilkison, Legislative Director of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) said that Texas has gotten increasingly more violent over the years.

“It's more violent simply because you've had a population explosion,” said Wilkison on a recent edition of the Texas Talks Podcast. “The more people you get in a room, on the street, in a city, the more chance for crime or violence against one another.”

“This has always been a violent State,” said Wilkison. “On that wall 51 percent are killed by gunfire and so I would just give that as another illustration of a violent State.”

Charley Wilkison has been working for (CLEAT) since 1994. There he serves as the Executive Director and Chief Lobbyist. Before coming to CLEAT, he gained political experience through the US Congress, Texas Senate and Texas House of Representatives. He has a degree in Political Science from Texas A&M.

Texas Talks podcast is hosted by Brad Swail. The weekly show is focused on public policy in the state of Texas, with insights from the people and organizations that influence it.

The podcast is available on Simple Cast and YouTube.
