Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Aransas Pass for achieving the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community status. This honor is conferred by Travel Texas as part of a new initiative. This certification acknowledges the efforts of the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center to harness tourism for local economic growth, job creation, and increasing visitor numbers both domestically and internationally.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of tourism for Texas's economy, noting that it supports one in 11 jobs within the state and generates an annual economic impact of over $193 billion. He encouraged other Texas communities to pursue this certification as a means to promote local tourism and job growth. "Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state," said Governor Abbott. He congratulated Aransas Pass and its Chamber of Commerce on their achievement and urged all Texas communities to consider becoming certified to further grow their local tourism sectors.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell highlighted Aransas Pass's appeal as a starting point for experiencing the Gulf Coast's natural attractions and outdoor activities. "Whether launching a fishing trip, kayaking through coastal waterways, or spotting dolphins along the Lydia Ann Channel, visitors find plenty of ways to connect with the water," he remarked, acknowledging the city's efforts in promoting a relaxed coastal experience for tourists.
Representative Todd Hunter commended Aransas Pass for their achievement, stating, "This designation is not just a recognition of the city’s natural beauty and hospitality, but also a testament to the dedication of its residents and local leaders." He expressed optimism regarding the city's ability to attract visitors and generate new jobs, thus strengthening the local economy.
City Manager Mary Juarez expressed pride in the recognition, attributing it to the collective efforts of residents, local businesses, and city staff in creating a welcoming tourist environment. "Tourism is an essential part of our community, boosting local businesses and enriching the overall experience for those who come to explore," she said.
County Commissioner Howard J. Gillespie emphasized Aransas Pass's role as a regional destination rich in history, beauty, and culture. "We’re proud to be part of the Tourism Friendly Texas program and excited to continue sharing our community with visitors,” he stated.
The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program is available to local governments and non-profit organizations involved in tourism promotion.
