Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently met with Governor Hideaki Ohmura of Aichi Prefecture to discuss their significant economic ties and the potential for increased trade. This meeting took place at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin.

Governor Abbott and Governor Ohmura discussed their successful economic partnership, referencing the Statement of Mutual Cooperation (SMC) they signed during Abbott's economic mission to Japan last year. Ohmura highlighted the collaboration between universities and high schools in both regions, acknowledging the significance of student exchanges and joint research.

Governor Abbott emphasized Texas' business-friendly environment, strong infrastructure, and skilled workforce as factors attracting global companies to the state. The two leaders explored ways to enhance their economic relationship, focusing on investment and trade opportunities in key industries like auto manufacturing. They also recognized the U.S.-Japan alliance’s strategic importance, committing to strengthening economic ties between Texas and Japan.

The previous year, Abbott signed a historic SMC with Ohmura in Tokyo. This agreement aims to boost trade in vital industries such as manufacturing and attract new business investments in Texas.
