The Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division (CID), alongside the Odessa Police Department (OPD) and the Midland County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), successfully conducted a human trafficking investigation in the Permian Basin, resulting in two arrests and the rescue of a victim.

The investigation began on March 31, focusing on potential human trafficking activities centered around a hotel in the Midland/Odessa area. Authorities identified several potential victims along with a suspect during the operation. On April 4, OPD responded to a disturbance involving a vehicle that had been previously identified in the investigation.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office, in coordination with DPS Special Agents, followed the vehicle once it began moving and intervened near IH-20 and Rankin Highway.

"Damante Baty, 33, was arrested for trafficking of persons (a second-degree felony) and driving with an invalid license," authorities confirmed. Additionally, "Talisha Hale, 26, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (a third-degree felony) and public intoxication."

Authorities confirmed the rescue of one victim, who is now receiving victim services.
