Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has announced that the Texas Senate is making significant progress in addressing key legislative priorities. In a statement issued on April 7, 2025, Patrick highlighted the Senate's efforts to meet the expectations of Texans by passing important bills related to property tax relief, border security funding, crime reduction, and education reform.
"The Texas Senate is in overdrive, working hard to complete the people’s business," Patrick said. He emphasized the need for legislation that addresses various issues including healthcare, water and power needs, job creation, and maintaining a strong business climate.
Patrick noted that the Senate has already passed 29 out of its top 40 priority bills over to the House with a goal to pass most of these by April 15. "I do not let the clock kill important, must-pass bills," he said.
Last week alone saw the passage of 84 bills from the Senate to the House, bringing the total number of bills passed by the Senate to 205. In contrast, Patrick pointed out that the Texas House has passed only 10 bills so far.
Despite this disparity, Patrick expressed optimism about collaboration with House Speaker Dade Phelan: "The Speaker is saying all the right things privately and publicly. Communication is good."
He urged swift action from the House on these bills before the session deadline on June 2. "This can be one of the most conservative sessions in history," he remarked.
The statement also listed several priority bills that have been passed so far, including those focused on school choice (Senate Bill 2), electric grid reliability (Senate Bill 6), bail reform (Senate Bill 9), and teacher pay increases (Senate Bill 26).
