Texas Senate advances key bills as legislative session progresses

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick released a statement highlighting the progress of the Texas Senate during the 89th legislative session. "Last week was another industrious week in the Texas Senate," he said, noting that the Senate has passed 24 out of its 40 priority bills and a total of 133 bills overall.

Among the key legislation is Senate Bill 650, which mandates age verification for alcohol sales to minors, aimed at reducing fatal car crashes involving underage drinking. The list of priority bills includes measures on budget allocation, school choice, banning THC, increasing homestead exemptions, and establishing a Dementia Prevention and Research Institute.

Additional priorities involve reforms in bail systems, protecting religious freedoms in schools, and enhancing government efficiency. Notable efforts also focus on housing affordability, preventing foreign land acquisitions, regulating taxpayer funds for lobbying, and addressing AI-generated child pornography.

Patrick emphasized ongoing efforts: "This week, the Texas Senate will continue passing more conservative legislation to keep Texas the best state in America." He expressed anticipation for prompt action from the House to advance these policies to Governor Abbott's desk.
