U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Gilberto Guadalupe Guevara-Barboza, a 26-year-old Mexican national and self-admitted member of the Paisas gang, into custody. The arrest occurred on March 14 following his release from the Federal Correctional Institution in Ray Brook, New York.
Guevara's criminal history includes convictions for drug possession, resisting an officer, and two counts of illegal reentry into the United States. He initially entered the country illegally at an unknown time and place without being admitted by an immigration official. On July 15, 2015, he was granted voluntary departure and left via the McCallen, Texas port of entry on August 28, 2015. Despite this, Guevara illegally reentered the U.S., leading to an immigration judge in Arlington, Virginia ordering his removal to Mexico on January 6, 2016. He was subsequently removed in February of that year.
Guevara reentered the U.S. without inspection two more times before admitting to entering without admission or parole by an immigration official in 2022.
On May 28, 2024, Hidalgo County Court in Edinburg, Texas convicted him of possession of marijuana and resisting arrest; he was sentenced to probation. ICE encountered Guevara again on June 14, 2024, issuing him a notice of intent to reinstate his prior order of removal. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas later convicted him of illegal reentry and sentenced him to nine months in prison on November 19, 2024.
Guevara is currently held by ICE pending his removal to Mexico.
