Governor Greg Abbott addressed a gathering at the Texas Public Policy Foundation in Austin, emphasizing the strong support for a universal school choice bill for all Texas families. The event coincided with the Texas House Public Education Committee's public testimony on House Bill 3. Governor Abbott encouraged Texans to express their support and testify in favor of school choice.
“If you look at opponents of school choice, they have a single goal: they want more money,” said Governor Abbott. “More money is not a goal. It’s a means to an end. Our goal is bigger, bolder, and better. Our goal is to put Texas on a pathway to ranking No. 1 in educating our kids."
The Governor addressed over 300 parents and students, commending Speaker Dustin Burrows for his unprecedented support for school choice as the first Speaker to advocate for it in Texas history. He also countered claims about the negative impact of school choice by asserting that most Texans across demographics support it, public education will remain funded, and homeschooling parents will retain curriculum control.
Governor Abbott was joined by several state representatives and supporters from across Texas who back school choice. In his recent State of the State Address, he had declared school choice an emergency item for this legislative session.
