Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has issued a warning to Texans, particularly those in the agricultural sector, to prepare for heightened wildfire and severe storm threats. The state is experiencing dry conditions, high winds, and rising temperatures, increasing the risk of wildfires. Concurrently, North and East Texas are under severe storm warnings with potential for damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes.
Commissioner Miller emphasized the importance of readiness: “We don’t want a repeat of last year’s fires, where we saw entire ranches, homes, and livelihoods go up in smoke,” he stated. He further warned about the impending storms: “And now, with severe storms threatening parts of the state, Texans need to be on high alert. Preparedness can mean the difference between safety and tragedy.”
The Texas Department of Agriculture is collaborating with state agencies and local officials to bolster wildfire response efforts and provide necessary assistance. Commissioner Miller encouraged community vigilance: “Texans are tough, and we look out for each other,” he said. “Now’s the time to take action to protect your family, livestock, and property. Let’s not wait until it’s too late.”
For additional preparedness resources, residents are advised to consult the Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas Division of Emergency Management.
