Texas Senate passes teacher support bill with unanimous approval

Today, the Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 26, introduced by Senator Brandon Creighton of Conroe. The bill is part of the Texas Teacher Bill of Rights and aims to address financial challenges faced by educators. It received unanimous bipartisan support and will now proceed to the Texas House.

Senator Creighton expressed his satisfaction with the Senate's decision, stating, "Today, the Texas Senate took an unprecedented step to honor and support our educators by passing SB 26 with unanimous, bipartisan support—the single greatest investment in classroom teachers ever made by a legislative body. This bill is more than just policy; it is a firm commitment to ensuring that Texas teachers are respected, supported, and financially secure."

He further explained that SB 26 is only the beginning of efforts to tackle issues such as discipline, safety, and training for teachers. "As the first bill in the Texas Teacher Bill of Rights, SB 26 addresses the financial challenges that educators face. But this is just the beginning. This session, I will advance legislation to address the most pressing issues facing our educators—discipline, safety, and training—ensuring that Texas teachers have the support they need to shape the next generation of Texans," he said.

Creighton emphasized that no other state has made such a significant commitment to its educators. "No other state has made a commitment of this magnitude. No legislature before us has taken such bold action to empower and protect the men and women who are the backbone of our schools. This bill is a promise—one that tells every teacher in Texas, 'We have your back.'"

Reflecting on his time in office, Creighton remarked on the importance of this legislative achievement: "I have passed many bills throughout my time in the Senate, but to see unanimous support for lifting up our teachers is a moment I will always remember. It speaks to the importance of this issue and the broad consensus that our educators deserve better."

Concluding his statement, Creighton noted that while SB 26 may not make major headlines, it represents a significant investment in Texas's future: "This bill may not make the biggest headlines, but every senator, every Texan can be proud of what we have accomplished today. Investing in our teachers is investing in the future of Texas, and I look forward to continuing this work with SB 27 and beyond."
