Texas Senate advances bills on bail reform and teacher pay raises

The Texas Senate has passed four bills aimed at reforming the state's bail system. The bills include SJR 1, which requires the denial of bail for illegal aliens accused of felonies; SB 9, which strengthens the bail system to keep repeat offenders off the streets; SJR 5, allowing detention without bond for habitual violent offenders; and SB 40, which bans taxpayer funding for bail bonds.

In education, Senate Bill 26, concerning teacher pay raises, has advanced from the Senate Education Committee to the Senate floor. The bill proposes across-the-board pay increases for teachers, opportunities to earn over $100,000 annually, improvements to the Teacher Incentive Allotment, free PreK for teachers' children, and statewide teacher liability insurance.

Brown County Day was observed at the Texas Capitol with over 30 citizens visiting. Discussions included electricity issues, border security, water crisis solutions, and educational freedom. Notable attendees were Brown County Republican Party Chairman Robert Porter and Brownwood City Councilman Draco Miller.

Texas Manufacturers’ Day highlighted manufacturing's impact on employment in Senate District 10 and across Texas. Over 847,000 Texans work in manufacturing jobs that offer an average annual compensation exceeding $123,000.

Riley Gaines was honored by the Texas Senate for her leadership after competing against a transgender athlete in college swimming. Her efforts have contributed to legislation requiring athletes to compete under their biological gender.

The Annual Texas Legislative Prayer Breakfast featured former baseball player Darryl Strawberry as a guest speaker. His message focused on redemption and personal struggles.

Senator Pete Flores and others recognized Texas Game Wardens for their service in protecting wildlife and natural resources.

Arlington ISD trustees Sarah McMurrough and Brooklyn Richardson met with Senator Phil King during their visit this week.
