Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has expressed support for Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's initiative to evaluate the security of the Texas Lottery. Miller emphasized the importance of maintaining fairness, integrity, and public trust in all areas overseen by his agency.
"The Texas Department of Agriculture plays a vital role in safeguarding the security of the Texas Lottery by conducting meticulous inspections of lottery ping pong balls," said Miller. He highlighted that these inspections consider various factors such as climate, lab conditions, and even the material of the weighing table to ensure accuracy and prevent manipulation.
Miller called for a thorough evaluation of couriers and retail services involved in lottery ticket sales. "The Texas Lottery was designed to operate with integrity, and we must uphold that standard," he stated. He raised concerns about practices such as hiding lottery printing machines from public view and allowing a single entity to control both a retail location and its associated courier service.
He stressed that transparency is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the Texas Lottery. "We must ensure that no retailer or courier service undermines the fairness that Texans expect and deserve," Miller urged. He called on relevant authorities to take immediate action to preserve public trust in the state's lottery system.
The statement was released by Maddison Jaureguito, Director of Communications.
