The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has issued a warning to residents about unsolicited packages containing unidentified seeds and liquids arriving from China. This alert follows the discovery of such a package in Clute, Texas. The TDA is working closely with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to identify the contents.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller emphasized the importance of caution, stating, “Folks, please take this matter seriously. Receiving any unsolicited liquid or chemical at your doorstep poses a significant risk to the health of you and your family." He further warned against planting these seeds due to potential harm to local agriculture.
Recently, there was a temporary halt by the United States Postal Service on inbound packages from China and Hong Kong due to heightened tariffs, though services have now resumed. The public is advised to remain vigilant regarding unsolicited packages.
Residents who receive such packages are instructed not to open them but instead keep them sealed and contact the TDA immediately for guidance.
For further information or concerns, individuals can reach out to the TDA toll-free at (800) TELL-TDA.
