Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has declared that the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) will cease contracting with entities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) policies. According to Miller, these policies promote race and sex-based preferences that he claims often violate U.S. civil rights laws.
Commissioner Miller stated that during the Biden Administration's tenure, DEI policies have infiltrated various sectors including federal government agencies, corporations, financial institutions, the medical field, and educational institutions. He argues that these policies contradict civil rights laws and weaken American values.
“During the four years of the Biden Administration, these dangerous policies were allowed to infect all aspects of our federal government," said Commissioner Miller. He emphasized his belief that DEI initiatives undermine national spirit and traditional values. “DEI policies are a slap in the face to every citizen who seeks to build a better life for themselves and their family through hard work," he added.
Effective immediately, TDA staff have been instructed to halt business with vendors or subcontractors endorsing DEI or DEIA practices based on race, color, sex, sexual preference, religion, or national origin.
Miller concluded by referencing public sentiment against DEI policies during the last Presidential election. “President Donald Trump and the United States Department of Justice are doing their part to rid this evil from our federal institutions," he stated.
