Governor Greg Abbott has renewed a wildfire disaster proclamation for numerous counties in Texas, initially issued on October 14, 2024. This decision follows confirmation from the Texas Division of Emergency Management that elevated fire weather conditions persist in several areas.
The proclamation covers a wide range of counties including Andrews, Archer, Armstrong, Atascosa, Bailey, Bandera, Bastrop, Baylor, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Blanco, and many others across the state. The action allows the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to address the ongoing threat.
Governor Abbott stated: "Pursuant to Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, I authorize the use of all available resources of state government and of political subdivisions that are reasonably necessary to cope with this disaster."
In addition to resource allocation, certain regulatory statutes may be suspended to expedite response efforts. Abbott explained: "Pursuant to Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code...I hereby authorize the suspension of such statutes and rules for the duration of this declared disaster."
The renewal ensures continued measures to mitigate risks associated with current fire conditions threatening life and property across affected regions.
This official act was signed by Governor Abbott in Austin on January 12th and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
